The Proper Charlies play a mixture of original modern folk, bluegrass, alt-country with a wee dash of mayhem to spice up the mixture.

The co-captains and writers are Lenny Gallant (Charlie Bird) and Mike Sadava (Sunday Charlie), who together anchored the infamous Chicken Snails Road Show, the high-energy, crazy bluegrass band that wowed festival and club audiences all over Alberta from the Edmonton Folk Music Festival to the South Country Fair, as well as numerous live radio and television appearances on CKUA, CBC and City TV.

First they brought on board Hannah Goa (Champagne Charlie), a fiddler who toured in the summer of 2009 with the Juno-nominated old-time band from Whitehorse, Annie Lou. Then Dallas Petry (Charlie Horse), a rock steady upright bass player who has performed with the likes of Stringband, came on board.

The original songs of the Charlies range from the poignant plea for the forgotten soldier in Afghanistan to the downright silly assertions about the joys of making a pumpkin pie. The Proper Charlies also put their own take on obscure tunes by artists ranging from Bill Monroe to the Asylum Street Spankers, and can always throw a hot fiddle tune into the mix.
