With six releases since forming in 2009, it’s clear that Falklands are a band that can’t sit still. Comparisons to The Buzzcocks, The Kinks, Ted Leo, and early Costello are appropriate, but it is more the sonic combination of driving rhythms and pop-tinged melodies with frantic, noisy bursts that make the four-piece’s sound their own. Quite simply, though, Falklands play rock n roll.
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada is home base for the band, but due to their extensive touring history, the band now calls the Trans-Canada its second home. Through seven Western Canadian tours and most recently a national tour in support of their full-length LP, Think About It, the band has brought their brand of rock n roll revelry to garages, basements, and dive bars from coast-to-coast.
Think About It was recorded in April 2010 at The Hive Creative Labs with Jesse Gander (Bison BC, Pack AD, Japandroids). The record is lean, loud, and catchy. A collection of ten songs propelled by heavy bass lines, melodic guitar work, and soulful vocals. The album continues to see nationwide college radio attention, appearing on the !earshot Top 100 for two consecutive months and ranking #4 on the CJSR Top 100 Albums of 2010.
With the release of their latest EP Slumber Party behind them, Falklands are now preparing to head back to the Hive in July 2011 to record their second full-length record. The album will be a balance of darker, rhythmic rock songs and angular but melodic pop songs. The tentatively titled LP, Cold Favour, will be released in Spring 2012.
A national tour is being planned for October 2011 with overseas touring to follow in 2012. Visit our website for news, media, and tour dates.
