
Edmonton-born violinist Arlan Vriens performs widely as a specialist in contemporary and historically-informed performance. Recent engagements across Canada have included a Schnittke concerto performance with the Memorial Chamber Orchestra, and appearances as guest artist at the Tuckamore, Newfound, and Now Hear This festivals. As a symphony musician Arlan has held tenures as concertmaster of Opera on the Avalon, associate concertmaster of the Newfoundland Symphony, and first violinist in a number of other orchestras. His studies in violin performance took place at McGill University, Memorial University, and the University of Alberta, with Mark Fewer, Nancy Dahn, and Guillaume Tardif. Arlan is now undertaking doctoral studies in violin performance at the University of Toronto.
