Send in the Girls Burlesque

Sexy. Smart. Storytellers. Made up of Edmonton theatre artists turned burlesque beauties, Send in the Girls Burlesque is a collective concerned with matching the performance style of burlesque with the narrative of theatre to create burlesque that tells a story and goes a step above the usual bump and grind.

Founded in 2010 by Delia Barnett and Ellen Chorley, Send in the Girls Burlesque features the talents of Edmonton- based emerging professional artists, with a support team made up of a director, stage manager, choreographer and designers.

Send in the Girls Burlesque was created to be a theatre company. Similar to writing a new play, each number the troupe performs is storyboarded, scripted, work shopped and revised before it is put in front of an audience. Character arc, message and theatricality are all given just as much consideration as what clothing comes off.

Since 2010, Send in the Girls Burlesque has produced four full length shows: the award winning “Tudor Queens: a Burlesque” which débuted at the Edmonton International Fringe Festival in August 2011, the sold-out “March Madness” a revue-style show in March 2012, “A Bronte Burlesque” which débuted at the Edmonton International Fringe Festival in August 2012 and a remount of “Tudor Queens: A Burlesque” as a part Workshop West Theatre’s Canoe International Performance Art Festival . Along with their full length shows, SITG has made a number of appearances all over Alberta including Nextfest Emerging Arts Festival, Theatre Garage’s Dead Are Restless Showcase, JMTF Artists for Life (Camp Fyrefly Fundraiser), Latitiude 53, Kaleido Family Arts Festival, and performances along side legendary burlesque dancers Raven Virgina (Calgary), April O’Peel (Vancouver), Judith Stein (Burlesque Hall of Fame Inductee) and Angie Pontani (Miss Exotic World). Send in the Girls Burlesque was nominated for an Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award for Best Fringe Production in 2012 for the show "Tudor Queens: A Burlesque" and was recently named one of Edmonton's favourite Burlesque Troupes by the readers of Vue Weekly. Founder Delia Barnett (LeTabby Lexington) was a finalist in the Miss Burlesque Bunny competition and Named Best Tassel Twirler. Founder Ellen Chorley was won two Elizabeth Sterling Haynes awards for her work in children's theatre and was recently named one of Edmonton's Top 40 Under 40.
