Michelle Rumball

Michelle Rumball is a maker and chaser of songs.

In the late 80's, as lead singer and co-founder of uber-Canadian acoustic rockers THE GRIEVOUS ANGELS, Michelle defined the sound of a band that charmed fans and charged up bars, legion halls and festivals across Canada.

After five years, two great recordings and a Juno nomination for One Job Town, it was time for Michelle to find her own authentic voice and sing her own songs.

This journey led her to the heart of jazz, blues, gospel and groove in the American south, New Orleans, where she lived and listened for two years. It's a rich city that can chew you up but she held on for the ride and came out the other side a changed woman with a strong sense of what her voice wanted to say. She had her first solo show on Frenchman Street, hopped a Greyhound bus and returned to Toronto to start anew.

Hailing from Scarborough, and proud of it, Michelle has worked long and hard at establishing a name for herself in a hometown wall-to-wall with distractions of every kind.

She has two CD's under her belt that track a maturing sense of her artistic vision. The very quiet and moody 'terrain' from 2001 meanders around the theme of home, was recorded live at Catherine North in Hamilton and shows a songwriter just learning about herself. Her second effort was released in 2011. 'Welcome to the Beauty Saloon' shows growth and confidence in both songwriting and song choice.

She is now close to releasing her third solo recording, due out in October 2018. It is being produced by long time collaborator and phenomenal musician KEVIN QUAIN. It was recorded live off the floor in two days at Toronto's extraordinary UNION SOUND and features KEVIN QUAIN, NIGEL HEBBLEWHITE, ADAM WARNER and guests SHELLEY COOPERSMITH and CLELA ERRINGTON.

These days Michelle plays all over the city in music clubs, garages, bookstores and barber shops.

This past spring found her playing an intimate solo show for the SELLERS & NEWELL SPEAKEASY series and a sold out Bob Dylan Tribute at the much larger HUGHS ROOM LIVE, as well as all her regular shows at venues across Toronto. In her role as a side person, she can be found crooning the hits ot the coffee house era in the 60's FOLK REVIVAL show that plays monthly.

She has the coveted, auditioned for license to play music in the subways of Toronto. She spends a lot of time there, working up songs and sending music into the ears of people making their way around the city.
