Lauren Gillis, is a young, talented Musician, with undeniable passion for blues/throwback-pop/alt-country. Her voice is the kind that makes rooms quiet and her songs are true to what she feels. She was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, and has been playing locally for three years.
Her greatest influences are Etta James, Simon and Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, Ray Charles, Patsy Cline, and Elvis. She is known for busting out upbeat oldies inspired pop/folk, as well as soulful blues-country ballads. She started to sing in local competitions at the age of 15, and within months, she was competing in Toronto, where she was granted with the opportunity to record a country cover demo in Nashville, Tennessee.
She spent her Grade twelve year in Switzerland on Rotary Youth Exchange, where she developed her style, and her taste in music. While in Switzerland, she travelled it's sister countries, and in Paris, France, she played a 15 song set in a piano-bar. This was the moment she knew music was what she needed to be pursuing.
Since then she has shared the stage with Brett Kissel, William Joseph, and David Foster's band. She has developed into a talented young songstress, with a defined soulful tone. Her style is nostalgic, yet somehow new, blending modern style together with oldies flare.
At the moment, she is playing in a funk/pop/r&b duet called "Good Company", while working on her solo throwback music. Her solo demo will be out in the Fall 2010, which she is recording with several local artists. Her deep passion for music is what the audience sees when she sings, and her fans easily connect with her humble and charismatic personality. Lauren Gillis is one to keep your eye on, as she is both modest, and unbelievably talented.
