Try not to dance once The SuperBand take the stage. You ARE gonna have a funky good time. Really. This high-powered 8-piece band delivers the goods and then some. Extreme funk. This group epitomizes the fertile and fluid Edmonton music scene, these talented musicians come from various forms and bands. Bassist Jay Cairns conceived the SuperBand because to him- funk feels right. Cairns created the SuperBand by first rounding out the rhythm section with Fred Brenton, his drummer bandmate from J.I.F. (spawned of the Hi-Phoniqs). Also from this band comes stellar singers Ian Alleyne and Orville Cameron. The monster line up also includes guitarist Curtis Ross (Feast, Mixed Roots, bebop cortez), keyboardist Doug Organ (Roger, Roots Stew, Ann Vriend), and the King Muskafa horn players J. C. Jones and Eric Weiden. The Superband has done their research- each set is a unique and entertaining journey through the history of Funk, with a songlist culled from legendary writers such as Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Bob Marley, P-Funk, and Sly. All groove, all the time. The message and purpose of this new act is Entertainment with a capitol E. Energetic and dancey. The SuperBand- nasty and tasty, sly, slick and wicked. They’ll make ya wanna get up and shake what cha mama gave ya.
