Derek is a Singer, Songwriter, & Musician based in Edmonton, Alberta. From a young age, Derek has had a very strong passion for music.
"I started playing guitar at the age of 11 or 12. I fell in love with the music that surrounded me. My parents had a pretty broad taste in music." Says the artist. A Romantic!
Many have commented on Derek's comfort and ease with the delicate topics. When Derek performs...the music, the emotion, the gestures, the very heart of the songs seem to pour out of him. Derek elegantly showcases the broad range of feeling we experience in relationships, with comfort and ease, that even many seasoned performers are reluctant to display on stage. Some well known names that have influenced his guitar playing is: George Benson, Dire Straits, Eric Johnson, Eric Clapton, BB King, John Mayer, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Kirk Hammett, Oscar Lopez, and a lot of 80's guitarists (too many to innumerate).
Interestingly, the local talent is one of his greatest inspirations! Derek is a powerhouse of emotion, showmanship, musicianship, and raw artistic passion that is not to be missed, especially in the live dais.
