Goodwood Atoms' blend of ethereal folk, electronic-inflected grooves and heavy-hitting climaxes echoes the eclectic, otherworldly sonics of progressive indie bands like Alt-J, Yeasayer, and Radiohead.
Formed in 2014, Goodwood Atoms grew out of the scene at Vancouver's Juniper Room, an underground studio-venue that has been the brainchild of frontman Francis Hooper. Taking an intensely collaborative approach, their sound emerges from the complementary songwriting and multi-instrumental contributions of Hooper (lead vocals), Joe Pooley (bass), Dawson Verboven (guitar) and Justin Banmann (drums).
The Vancouver-based four-piece was among twelve bands selected as the best in BC for the 2014 PEAK Performance Project. They earned 1st place at the 2015 Nimbus Recording Competition and, in early 2016, were selected to receive a FACTOR Juried Sound Recording grant in support of their first album.
Their debut full-length—due for release in late 2016—features production from Nygel Asselin (Half Moon Run), Shawn Cole (Bend Sinister) and Dave Vertesi (Hey Ocean!).
