Feenix aka Shawn Bernard

Shawn Bernard, aka FEENIX, is the real deal. He lost both his parents at a young age and grew up on the streets of inner city Edmonton surrounded by drugs and prostitution. Having been in the rap game nearly 24 years, he began rhyming and rapping since he can remember and in 1992 founded a rap group that later evolved into a high-profile nationwide gang. After several incarcerations and a life of using & selling drugs, Shawn left the gang life after the drug death of his beloved sister. He now has a professional music career and his debut album, "Tha Real OG" was one of the three final nominees at the 2007 Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards. His much anticipated second album release "On Tha Rise" was also nominated in 2008. In 2009, Feenix won "Best Rap or Hip Hop Video" at The Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards in Hamilton, ON.Just this year FEENIX won both categories he submitted and was nominated for which were "Best Rap Video" and "Best Rap or Hip Hop Album" at The Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards and also opened up the awards ceremony with and electrifying performance with Will Belcourt and the house band led by than none other than Raven form award winning group "Digging Roots"!

In 2007, Shawn starred in a National Film Board film about his life called “Walking Alone” which premiered at the 2007 Dreamspeakers Festival. Shawn also won the audience vote for favorite stage performer that same year at the "Fashion Rocks" Dreamspeakers Main Stage, Edmonton.

On National Aboriginal Day of 2008, Shawn graduated and was class valedictorian of the Aboriginal Family and Community Support Worker Program at Norquest College in Edmonton. When not performing or taking classes, Shawn is also a family man but focuses on his music, promoting artists from all across Canada and doing positive lifestyle presentations.
