Ann Vriend

"Holy wow! What a voice, what a performance.... She had a commanding stage presence and a control of dynamics that actually made my jaw drop making me grin like an idiot.... if you have not heard of her, get on that, because she was absolutely phenomenal!" The AU Review (Australia), selected as best 15 acts to see of 150 act international festival.

International touring artist Ann Vriend (AV) has not yet been home 30 consecutive days in 2016-- having performed in seven different countries since January, 2016. Her 2014 critically acclaimed retro soul album "For The People In The Mean Time" has kept her busy right up until this point: it was nominated for Pop Album of the Year at the Toronto Independent Music Awards (despite Vriend's residence in Edmonton), while songs from the album did well on Australian radio; getting into rotation on ABC and Triple J, where "A Need So Wide" made the nomination list for the Top 100 Songs of 2015. In Canada song placements in commercials and short films resulted, and AV and her band "The Rooster Davis Group" won 2 Blues awards, were semi-finalists in the 2016 Memphis Blues Challenge, and spent June and July playing the Albertan blues and roots festival circuit.

Somehow in that frenzied schedule AV found time to get into the studio, though, and will release a new single "Anybody's Different" on September 16, 2016, recently having signed a recording contract with Aporia Records (Toronto).

During her hard working and vigorous career Vriend has independently sold more than 16,000 albums off the stage. She has appeared on CBC's "Vinyl Café" with Stuart McLean, ABC TV's prime time music comedy trivia show "Spicks and Specks", ABC Radio's "The Inner Sleeve" and Sydney mornings with Wendy Harmer, and Germany's "Arte TV." She has been featured in Elle Magazine and performed in Koener Hall via the Songwriters' Association of Canada alongside Dan Hill, Marc Jordan, Melanie Doan, and others. AV won the Ottawa Bluesfest 2013 "She's the One" performance contest, and won a songwriting contest which took her to Nashville, as well as funded her debut recording. Last year her live show with her band garnered 4/4 stars in Die Rheinpfalz, Germany and with every release her songs have charted on college and community stations locally and internationally, while a tune from an earlier release, "Feelin' Fine." reached Gold Rotation on Edmonton's Magic 99 station, and according to station program director Kurt Leavins was the "most requested song we had by any local artist in the station's history."

Now with a bigger team behind her in some ways AV is only just getting started. Writes Scenestr Magazine (Australia):

"A delightful stage presence—she has an engaging, down-to-earth manner, and the audience loved her.... do yourself a favour; go and see her!"

Or, as stated more forcefully by the Toronto Star: "Don't miss her."
