Stephanie Kwan & Krystian Sekowski

The Genesius Duo brings its audiences symphonic works that dare plunge into the depths of human emotion, both the heroic and the tragic, during times of War. Experience these musical memoirs through the dark Tragic Overture of Panufnik, stand amongst the prisoners of the concentration camps by listening to the 2nd movement of Symphony of Sorrowful Songs by Gorecki, bear witness to the genocide of Martinu's fellow Czechians in Memorial to Lidice as well as the grandeur of Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10, one that openly resisted the communist and totalitarian oppression that defined his era. The program finds hope in the optimism found in the music of Granados and Milhaud, while the unrelenting energy of Lutoslawski's famous Variations on a Theme by Paganini will bring us to the midst of battle. This piano-duo experience will bring to life the emotions and experiences that connect peoples across time to those lost in the devastating World Wars.
