Vicky Berg

Having grown up under the parenting of a piano teacher, Vicky Berg picked up the instrument at a very young age. Growing up on a farm outside of Coaldale, Alberta, much of her time indoors was spent working through the Royal Conservatory of Music classical piano curriculum, theory, and harmony. Vicky strengthened her musical abilities by participating in many junior high and high school bands and choirs and also played regularly in her church. After high school Vicky spent 5 summers and 2 winters working and volunteering at a kids camp called Camp Evergreen in Sundre, Alberta. It was at the camp that Vicky developed her musical leadership skills as she coordinated and participated in all the music for the daily chapel sessions. Also after high school, Vicky traveled extensively and it was in Africa particularly that she developed the desire to write her own music. This led to her enrollment in the jazz piano music program at Grant MacEwan. Under the guidance of Dr. Bill Richards she explored many different genres and furthered her knowledge of the instrument. Vicky was called to accompany many different musicians in a variety of styles and found herself to be comfortable in each setting.

At college Vicky met a group of young like-minded musicians who dedicated part of their time at school to rehearsing and performing their original music. This R&B band, The Consonance, is a unique influence on the music scene in Alberta and western Canada. Another of Vicky’s projects includes performing original folk music on a regularly basis.
