Montreal-based pianist and composer Yves Léveillé is increasingly called on to perform his music nationally and internationally.

After studying double bass and piano at St-Foy College, he studied music composition at Laval University. In the 1990s, he formed his own jazz ensemble dedicated to the interpretation of his original compositions. He has since released six albums on the Effendi label.

His 2010 album "Pianos", a recording of two pianos, highlights the fruitful artistic collaboration between Japanese pianist Eri Yamamoto and Léveillé. His newest CD "Chorégraphie" features compositions recorded with his new quartet including saxophonist Roberto Murray, bassist Adrian Vedady and drummer Alain Bastien. Le Devoir describes "Chorégraphie" as "one of the five best jazz albums of 2010."

As a composer, Léveillé draws inspiration from a number of sources including modern and traditional jazz, classical music, and world music. Constantly seeking and probing, Léveillé's aesthetic astounds by its refined sense of harmony and constant melodicism. His music finds countless ways to elicit an emotional response from each listener.
