Wolfram Schmitt-Leonardy

Wolfram Schmitt-Leonardy is one of the leading pianists of his generation. He graduated with the highest distinction at the University of Music Saar. During his studies he worked with renowned teachers and pianists as Bernd Glemser, Michael Ponti, Adrian Aeschbacher, Vitalij Margulis and Alexis Weissenberg.

He has won top-prizes in piano competitions throughout the world such as the International Sergej Rachmaninoff Piano Competition, the Walter Gieseking Competition, the International Piano Competition Carlo Soliva, the International Piano Competition Mazara del Vallo, the International Piano Competition Pietrà Ligure and many others.

Mr. Schmitt-Leonardy has performed worldwide in renowned concert halls and international festivals such as the Berlin Philharmonia, the St Petersburg Philharmonia, the Amiata Piano Festival (I), and the Festival White Nights in St Petersburg, Bayreuth, and Paris.

As soloist he has performed with such important orchestras as the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia of the Nations, the Philharmonia Hungarica, RTV Orchestra Slovenia, the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra, Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland Pfalz and many others.

Among his chamber music partners are the famous Philharmonia Quartett Berlin, the Melos Quartett, the Rodin Quartett, the Stuttgart Wind Quintett, the Amati Quartett and musicians like Ramon Jaffé, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Dimitri Maslennikov, Ingolf Turban, Valérie Aimard, Irena Baar, Georg Friedrich Schenck and Maurizio Baglini

He has recorded radio and television broadcasts in Germany (SR, SDR, Radio Bremen, SWR Baden Baden, Deutschlandradio Berlin), Italy (RAI), Switzerland (DRS), Slowenia (RTV), the Philippines (BMG), Thailand and Vietnam (VTV1).

In 2010, Wolfram Schmitt-Leonardy was appointed Professor for Piano at the prestigious University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. He also teaches at the École Normale de Musique de Paris Alfred Cortot and for the Lang Lang Foundation. He lives in Munich.
