Kate Blechinger Quartet

Kate Blechinger is an inventive and charismatic Edmonton based vocalist, composer, and arranger. Kate is a recent graduate of MacEwan University's BMus in Popular, Contemporary, and Jazz Music program, where she majored in Vocal Performance, and studied privately with Rhonda Withnell and Dee Daniels.

In her own compositions, Kate explores a fusion of her two musical loves- folk and jazz music - by mixing the lyrical sincerity of folk traditions with elements of jazz harmony, instrumentation, and improvisation. Some highlights from Kate's career include performing at the 2013 Edmonton International Jazz Festival with Three Quarter Septet, singing back-up vocals for iconic rock band, Heart, on their 2014 Rockin' Heaven tour, and playing upright bass for songwriter Ariana Brophy on her fall 2015 tour from Edmonton to Halifax. Most notably, in 2015, Kate had the distinct pleasure of presenting Making Myself with Joni: Rehearsal, Creativity, and The Production of Musical Subjectivity, a presentation about her graduation recital arrangements of Joni Mitchell's music, at "Court & Spark: An International Symposium on The Work of Joni Mitchell" at the University of Lincoln in Lincolnshire, UK!

Currently, Kate can be found performing around Edmonton with her own quartet, singing and playing bass with Emily Nancy Guthrie & The Wildflowers, singing with Edmonton's vocal harmony swing group, The Jivin' Belles, and working on her own music in preparation for her debut EP in 2017. Kate also teaches Kindermusik at Kidsnotes Music, and private voice and piano at Prime School of Music and Dominelli School of Music in Edmonton.
