Influenced by the Manchester scene of the 80s and 90s--including The Stone Roses, Oasis, and The Verve--Short of Able focuses on acoustic-driven rock featuring strong vocal melodies. Their song writing deconstructs ideas into their simplest components. From this cornerstone, they layer on rhythms, drums, and guitars, ultimately creating an expressive and rhythmic sound.
Formed in 2007, Short of Able is exclusively comprised of musicians from the Edmonton indie scene. Originally, the band was a three piece – Justin Wisser (vocals), Narish Maharaj (bass), and Colin Ouellette (drums), but locally renowned guitarist Devin Phillips was later added to the ensemble. They have enjoyed considerable success in Edmonton: winning the Supernova battle of the bands, playing in the band of the month showcase for local radio station Sonic 102.9, and gigging with well-known bands like An Horse, The Wheat Pool, Maurice, and Burning Borders. Short of Able has recently released their first EP titled "Home" which is available on iTunes. They are currently in the studio recording their full length album, which will be released sometime in early 2011.
