When you grow up in a house hold with such different styles of music such as traditional Ukrainian and Algerian rai you’re bound to hear and play music in a different way. Dean Kheroufi is a bass guitar player who plays in a way like no one else; he incorporates all sorts of music including jazz, funk, folk, rock, classical and whatever else is on his mind. He uses phrase sampling to simulate the effect of a full band when actually it’s only him and his bass guitar but he still knows when it’s time to keep it simple and just feel the groove. Influences of this young bass player are Jaco Pastorius, Janek Gwizdala and James Jamerson to name a few. Soloing or accompanying an ensemble it’s always entertaining listening to Dean.
