Shane Wiebe

Shane Wiebe was born in Calgary, Alberta - the youngest of three children. His family moved to Abbotsford, BC when he was very young, where he's lived ever since.

Shane grew up singing in church choirs and at youth groups, but at sixteen, after meeting Tony and Marlene Funk, his passion for music took a new turn. At age seventeen, Shane toured Germany, Switzerland, and Austria with the Columbia Singers. Not at all interested in each other at the time, it was on this very tour that Shane and his future wife Angela met for the first time. Later that same year Shane went on to sing with the Vancouver Cantata Singers and the West Coast Mennonite Chamber singers: both choirs' music is known the world over. In winter of 2001, Shane would again come across the lovely Angela Bensler. She was in need of a pianist to accompany her at a Christmas concert and had sought out Tony and Marlene Funk for a suggestion; they referred her to Shane. The two musicians became great friends and began dating in June of 2002. They were engaged in July of 2003 and married that December. Music for both Shane and Angela remained a hobby, and they performed at various locations throughout British Columbia. However, in April of 2004, having been urged by relatives to enter Canadian Idol auditions, the next phase of Shane's musical journey began as he climbed to a Top Five spot on the hit TV show.

Since beginning his musical career, Shane has had the privilege of working with such musicians as Lionel Richie, Gordon Lightfoot, Adam Gregory, and more. Lionel Richie himself picked up on the rich quality of Shane's voice, saying "I could see you standing on stage with a huge orchestra". It would seem that Lionel's prediction has come true as Shane has now joined forces with The Christian Tenors.

In November 2005, Shane and Angela recorded their first Christmas single together. Their version of "What Child Is This" ended up on the Canadian radio charts during the 2005 Christmas Season.

In October 2006, Shane was chosen as a candidate for the Bootlegger Generation B Campaign. Going up against 53 other competitors across the country, Shane came out on top and was awarded $10,000 to put toward his musical endeavours. The money was put to good use, and "The Wiebes" first album, "Into Your Light", was created. At Christmas of 2009, Shane and Angela released their second album, "Christmas with You". Currently they're recording their third studio album, "Restore the Wonder", set to be released June of this year. Shane will be heading across Canada on tour with his wife and two children this summer, performing at churches and halls all across our home and native land. Watch for The Wiebes in your home town.

Shane enjoys studying human resource management, when he gets the chance, and is currently working toward his Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of the Fraser Valley. He also holds a private pilot's license, and enjoys flying around the Southern BC skies when the opportunity so arises.
