Formed in Edmonton in fall 2008, SLATES sound somewhat like the Replacements, Constantines, Fugazi, the Wipers--ragged but melodic punk rock n roll. We've shared the stage with Nomeansno, Mudhoney, Ladyhawk, Future of the Left, new friends and bitter enemies (not really).

In January 2010, SLATES traveled to Cuba with Solidarity Rock/Rock Solidario, and playing 10 shows in 14 days. We had two appearances on Cuban talk shows as well as the national news, played on the street at a crowded bus stop in the middle of the day, on a rooftop balcony, in front of a sugar refinery, shared the stage with and met a ton of amazing Cuban punk rock and metal bands, and donated all of the gear used on the tour to Cuban rock bands.

LP2 recording starts in August 2010 with Jesse 'Beenie Prophet' Gander at the Hive. Over the last year and a half we've been lucky enough to play with some great bands and meet some great people. Thanks.
