Experience the magic of 5-time Grammy Award-winner Maria Schneider as she conducts the Edmonton Jazz Orchestra (EJO) in a performance of her big band compositions. The Edmonton Jazz Festival Society is please to present Maria in concert for the first time in Edmonton and delighted to partner with MacEwan University in hosting the show in their brand new Triffo Theatre.

Schneider's music has been hailed by critics as "evocative, majestic, magical, heart-stoppingly gorgeous, and beyond categorization." She and her orchestra became widely known starting in 1994 when they released their first recording, 'Evanescence.' With that recording, Schneider began to develop her personal way of writing for her 17-member collective, made up of many of the finest musicians in jazz today, tailoring her compositions to distinctly highlight the uniquely creative voices of the group. Schneider and her orchestra have established a distinct recording career including four GRAMMY Awards. In February 2016, Schneider won for Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocal for the track "Sue (or in a season of Crime)" recorded by the Maria Schneider Orchestra and David Bowie; and for the Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album for her album The Thompson Fields. The Maria Schneider Orchestra has performed at festivals and concert halls worldwide. She herself has received numerous commissions and guest conducting invites, working with over 85 groups from over 30 countries spanning Europe, South America, Australia, Asia and North America. We now invite her to join the Edmonton Jazz Orchestra (EJO), one of Edmonton's finest professional jazz ensembles for an unforgettable evening showcasing Schneider's original works and compositions.
