Foundation Concerts presents a night of Prairie folk-rock goodness courtesy of Saskatoon’s Deep Dark Woods and Edmonton’s Wool on Wolves. The two bands join musical forces on Friday, February 11th at the Myer Horowitz Theatre in Edmonton.
The Deep Dark Woods' newest release "Winter Hours" is a collection of their best recordings yet. Working with Juno award winning producer/musician Steve Dawson at "The Factory" in Vancouver, they managed to truly bring out an energy that the new songs deserved, recording the album live off the floor. What was created was an album full of raw emotion, sadness, beautiful vocals and harmonies, new sounds, and well thought out arrangements.” Winter Hours" represents the ever changing sound of the band, and a step forward from their last Black Hen release "Hang Me, oh Hang Me" (WCMA Nominated). "Winter Hours" recently won Best Roots Group at the 2009 Western Canadian Music Awards, and Ensemble of the Year at the 2009 Canadian Folk Music Awards.
Wool on Wolves is a band; pure and simple. They’re not here to distract you with flashing lights or smoke machines. They’re musicians, music fans, roommates, and friends above all else, who hold a genuine belief that music has the ability to move beyond speakers and headphones to truly encapsulate the human experience. Formed in the fall of 2008, the group works diligently to convey the emotion they feel while writing and performing from their home in Edmonton, Alberta. Each member of the group is a multi-instrumentalist, which allows for the listener to break from the predictable preconceptions of what constitutes modern pop and rock music. “Grey Matter”, the band’s debut full-length release, produced by Edmonton producer and musician, Nik Kozub, was released on November 9th.
