20100711_ShoutOut4_1_sos_fest_logo_1All of us at YEG Live were proud to be involved with this past weekend's inaugural SOSFest in Old Strathcona, and we'd like to express our deep appreciation to all the fans and patrons who came out to enjoy and support local live music!

We'd have to say the festival was a big success and it's a safe bet that this will become an annual event.

Showcasing 157 bands in 21 venues plus two outdoor bandstands over 3 days would not have been possible without the support of all the festival musicians, the festival's 120+ volunteers, the hugely supportive sponsors, the venues, the Old Strathcona community, and the festival stakeholders: Darb Erickson from Responsible Hospitality Edmonton & Shirley Lowe and the staff from the Old Strathcona Business Association, the SOSFest organizing team: Sponsor Relations Brandi Sidoryk, Volunteer Management Amy Thiessen and Megan Young, Foundation Concerts: Brent Oliver and Caitlin North ... and of course our intrepid Festival Producer Kaley Bird, whose vision and persistence made this festival a reality.

Thanks again, Edmonton!

Edmonton's only all-original open stage, every Sunday night at The Hydeaway!

Hosted by the fabulous Rhea March, Edmonton's best veteran artists perform alongside aspiring up-and-coming talent in this open format of great music and fun, every Sunday at The Hydeaway from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., with a different featured artist opening each week's show with a 20-minute set.  Admission is by donation ($5 suggested).

Everyone -- performers and audience alike -- is welcome to be a part of our live music community! From folk, to blues, to swing, jazz, and soul, canadiana, and everything in between -- Edmonton's "best open mic" is your best opportunity to enjoy dozens of fine musicians exhibit their all-original talent and passion.

rhea_march2The Sunday Night Songwriter's Stage started in 2007 at hulbert's coffee house (now closed) but continues under the enthusiastic and energetic guidance of host Rhea March, carrying on the tradition of being Edmonton's "best open mic."

Rhea March has been deeply involved with Edmonton's live music scene for many years. She has hosted a number of singer-songwriter, folk, roots, and mixed-genre open mics, and is the founder and producer of U22 Productions.

She is entertaining, engaging, and offers a deep sincerety and love of the craft that simultaneously puts the newest of performers at ease and delivers a welcoming comfort to even the most seasoned of stage veterans.

Each episode of the show is podcast at YEGlive.ca and rebroadcast by Radio Enigma.
