The podcasts are a recording of the raw output of the sound board from each show.  Each set is live mixed for optimal sound for the enjoyment of the live audience, which doesn't necessarily result in the best output for the podcast recording.  Sometimes you will hear feedback, clicks and pops, or 'clipping' on the recording but these artifacts were not noticeable during the live performance.  There are also dynamics from the room that result in imbalances between vocals and instruments in the recording even when the live mix sounds great.  Lastly, the public podcasts are compressed down to 32kpbs which becomes somewhat lossy, but raw and 128kbps versions are available upon request.

Also, if someone wants to donate a multitrack recorder then we can provide better quality :)
