Noam Bierstone

Noam Bierstone is a Canadian percussionist dedicated to modern artistic performance. Artist in residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts (2013-2015), Noam is a founding member of scapegoat (saxophone/percussion), standardmodell (saxophone/piano/percussion) & the Hellqvist/Amaral/Hyde/Bierstone project. He is regularly invited to perform with leading new music groups such as Ensemble Intercontemporain, Nouvel Ensemble Moderne & soundinitiative, and can be heard on the Cantaloupe Music record label, Radio France & CBC Radio (Canada).

Committed to the creation and development of new music, Noam has recently worked closely with composers including Mark André, Pierluigi Billone, Stefano Gervasoni, Vinko Globokar & Jennifer Walshe, and pursues ongoing collaborations with Mauricio Pauly, Emily Howard, Matthew Sergeant, Francisco Alvarado, Santiago Díez Fischer, Fernando Garnero, Anthony Tan & Sabrina Schroeder. He has performed in festivals including the Darmstadt Ferienkurse für Neue Musik, ManiFeste (Paris), Klara Festival (Brussels), Random Walks (Toronto), Together Now (The Hague), CNDM/Reina Sofia (Madrid), Domaine Forget (Quebec), Scotia Festival (Halifax) & Aujourd'hui Musiques (Perpignan).

Noam obtained his Bachelor's degree at McGill University in Montreal and his Master's in percussion and chamber music at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. He will begin Doctor of Music studies in performance at McGill University in September 2015 under the supervision of Aiyun Huang and Fabrice Marandola, with the support of a Doctoral Fellowship awarded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, a Canada Council for the Arts grant, and a McGill Graduate Excellence Award.

Noam has been supported by grants & scholarships from the Schulich School of Music, Adami, McGill Austrian Society, Williamson Foundation for Music, SABIAN cymbals & the Percussive Arts Society.
