Captain Tractor

It’s been over six years since the last recorded effort from Captain Tractor; 2005’s North of the Yellowhead. During that time, Captain Tractor has continued to play shows in Western Canada, Toronto, and of course in their hometown of Edmonton where they continue to be leaders in the E-Town music and culture industry. Whether as a duo, trio, Power Trio, or the full six piece band, Captain Tractor is still rocking the waves, and why not? What else are they going to do?

Along the way, the band has brought a new member into the fold: their friend and colleague, award winning fiddler, Shannon Johnson. After a year-long recording process, Captain Tractor is about to release a new studio album, Famous Last Words. Recorded in Edmonton, mixed in Los Angeles, and mastered in Toronto, Famous Last Words is a tour de force from one of Canada’s best Celtic Rock Bands. Full of timeless stories, lush arrangements, soaring vocals, and searing musicality, Famous Last Words is truly Captain Tractor’s best album to date.

So what have you been doing in the last six years? Besides playing in Captain Tractor, here’s some other things that the members have been doing.

Chris Wynters has just released a solo album: 2010-1982; has written and produced two full musicals: WedLOCKED and Saint Aggies ‘84; continues to run The Norwood Studio; produces and engineers albums for bands including The Wheat Pool, Dana Wylie and Amy Seeley; and plays every week at various stages around Edmonton. Chris is also a Sound Designer for Theatre and Video, as well as being involved in the burgeoning arts scene on 118 Avenue in Edmonton.

Scott Peters created and produced the Songs From the Ave Project, which included an album of Edmonton Singer Songwriters, and a Musical based on the songs. He continued to work as a Theatre Designer, most recently designing the live sound for Hard Core Logo Live. He is the Vice President of Arts on the Ave, an Edmonton Artist’s society and is an artistic associate for November Theatre.

Jason Kodie continued to play with many other musicians and bands in Edmonton. He released a solo album: A Blessed Curse; with Le Fuzz released the album Vie La Vida; and with Allez Ouest, the album Hybride. He is also an active Theatre Sound Designer, studio musician, and musical artist in residence at many Edmonton schools.

Jonny Nordstrom got himself a beautiful daughter, a day job, and finished his university degree after seventeen years. He also plays bass with The Plaid Tongued Devils, The James Murdoch Band and other sundry musicians around Alberta.

Shannon Johnson played with her siblings in The McDades, who released the award-winning album Bloom, and a Christmas offering Noel. She also collaborated with Maria Dunn to release the album The Peddler. Shannon played live all over Canada, the US and Europe, and continued to be a sought after studio player and producer.

Jules Mounteer continued to be a Mac Guru, play drums with Captain Tractor and others, and live on the edge………..of Edmonton.

That’s the last six years of a band that has been together for eighteen, and even though they all have many other projects on the go, they always return to Captain Tractor to play the music that they love with the people that have become like brothers and sisters.

Famous Last Words, with its’ tales of birth, death, love, hockey, and cannibalism, is a raucous return for Canada’s one and only CAPTAIN TRACTOR. What else are they going to do?
