Folk Edmonton, AB Website

"Transcends"is a newly formed Edmonton, Alberta based band. The band is made up of Lori Rackel (flute, vocals), Dave Davis (keyboard), Alex Boudreau (guitar, vocals) and Shirley Perry(guitar, vocals).

Shirley grew up in a little town in India. She left when she was 20 years old and always hoped that she would have a chance to go back. Shirley's youngest brother James Perry, was born in India and lives there now with his family. James invited Shirley to come to visit him and to perform at the Khasi Folk Festival. Shirley, who had just started to learn to play guitar and sing, felt like she wasn't quite ready for such an adventure. She had a little chat with her friend Alex, who said she should go and in fact that he would accompany her, as going to India was one of his dream trips. With her head now in the clouds she told Lori about her planned trip.

Lori has a keen interest in ethnic music and had learned and recorded a khasi song for one of Joan Perry's projects, U Sier lapalang, with Shirley and Graham Calder. Lori said she would also love to go to India with Shirley and Alex. Dave, a keyboard player from Edmonton, heard about the little trio and to their surprize decided to join them. Transcends became!!!!!! The four Edmonton musicians are rehearsing and making plans to take their music and their goodwill to a far off little village in India.
