Big John Bates

Bates' Americana Noir style fuses alternative rock and orchestral folk/punk. The new LP "From the Bestiary to the Leathering Room" examines anti-social behaviour, religious imagery, ghosts, family, addiction, death & betrayal.

With vocals shared by eclectic guitarist Big John and the dynamic upright bassist Brandy Bones the band also features percussionist Ty-Ty and the dark sounds of Justine Echo on cello. Together they create an unparalleled live experience, a sacrifice of innocence intended to drag your heart into your gullet. Considering John started as co-founder and original singer for Canadian metal legends Annihilator (Alison Hell, Never, Neverland) it's a wonder no one saw this train rolling.

The album was mainly recorded on board The Caleuche moored in Vancouver's False Creek. And fittingly the cover art is from Argentinian visionary Santiago Caruso (Pan's Labyrinth)
