Allison Lynch

Allison Lynch is a Canadian singer, lyricist and composer. With an eye to the golden age of jazz and a finger on the pulse of the modern singer-songwriter aesthetic, Allison Lynch creates a singular compositional voice that transcends era through a deliberate mix of the modern and the classic. Fusing jazz, blues, folk and pop influences, Skin & Flame is an intimate first release that features sensuous vocals, bluesy folk-uke ballads and a few newly imagined standards from the jazz repertoire. With a band and special guests made up of some of Canada's top musicians (including Juno-nominated Al Muirhead on trumpet) and Montreal Jazz Fest Rising Star Award winner Chris Andrew on piano, Allison is one of Alberta's most promising and talented up and coming musical voices.

Growing up with jazz-musician parents, Allison began performing at a young age, studying violin and piano from the age of six, and picking up guitar and ukulele in her teen years. While completing a Bachelor of Music with Honours in Classical vocal performance and Composition at the University of Calgary, Allison began working professionally in the Calgary Theatre scene as an actor, composer, sound-designer and musical director. Focusing on her songwriting and composing, she has collaborated on numerous musicals and created scores and sound designs for almost all of Calgary's major theatres. Her scores have been nominated for multiple Betty Mitchell and Sterling awards, and have been performed in productions across Canada. As an actor, Allison has performed on nearly all of Calgary's stages, earning three Betty Mitchell awards for Lead and Supporting-actress roles. In 2014, Allison had the privilege of singing with the Malaysian Symphony Orchestra in Dandi Productions musical, The Mysterious Maestro. She also performed with the Winnipeg and Victoria symphonies in 2015.
Allison performed with Kris Demeanor and Cutest Kitten Ever at the Calgary Folk Music Festival and on their Ontario tour this past fall, and has appeared as a guest vocalist on prestigious Canadian bassist Rubim de Toledo's album, The Bridge, as well as Johnny Summers', When It's Christmastime. She has also appeared as a guest vocalist with the Land's End Ensemble, the Calgary Jazz Orchestra, the Tyler Hornby Quintet and at Brazilfest with the Rubim de Toledo band. In 2015, Allison also sang the world premiere of Henry Cowell's, Chrysanthemums for soprano, piano and cello at the Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall in Calgary's Rozsa Centre.
Combining her passion for songwriting, composition and jazz-folk-pop fusion, Allison began writing for her debut album. She was awarded a grant from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and began recording at OCL studios in 2016 for her much-anticipated first release, Skin Flame.
