Louise Raymond

Artistic Director Louise Raymond demonstrated abilities for dance. She taught figure skating in Montreal for 8 years. In 1987, she began a new career in African Dance in Montreal that she pursued for several years. Following, she established herself in Oakland, California for a period of 10 years where she studied dance, drumming and researched on West African dance and culture. She has travelled in Senegal West Africa in 1993 for several months and short trip in Paris and New York in 1995 to add to her knowledge. Louise studied dance with renowned teachers like: Allassane Kane, Yousouff Kombassa, Marie Basse, Mariam Faye. During this period; she formed and directed a children’s dance company in Oakland for 5 years. She taught in Oakland , San Francisco , San Jose and several other areas in California . Professional development is also part of Louise’s agenda. She has trained several teachers in British Columbia with her program on motivating children through music, movement and West African Cultures. For the past two years she established herself in Nelson British Columbia where she formed a West African Dance troupe with professional dancers and musician from British Columbia , California and Oregon called Malicounda Dance Company. She has been working with children for 20 years.
