Sufi Music Ensemble

Karim performs with passion and conviction, with his commanding stage presence and charisma, allowing his audience to be truly connected while they listen to his combination of carefully crafted lyrics, soulful melodies and deep emotions. He received his Ph.D. in Music and Religious Studies from the University of Alberta (Canada), in 2012. Dr. Gillani regularly performs in North America and South Asia. He is an accomplished vocalist, composer, songwriter and received training in Indian classical and Sufi music from renowned musicians from India and Pakistan. He has released two critically acclaimed albums titled "Jhoom Jhoom: Celebration of A Lifetime" in Canada, 2008, and "Raah-e-Ishq: The Path of Love" on June 7, 2014. Dr. Gillani regularly performs in North America and his greatest honors was to perform in front of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and His Highness the Aga Khan at the opening ceremony for the Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat in Ottawa, 2008, and the foundation ceremony of the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, 2010. Some of his performances include spots on CBC TV, City TV, Omni TV, CJSR, CKUA, CBC and various radio stations across Canada. He has taught ethnomusicology courses at the University of Alberta since 2011.
