What might set Nucularboy apart from the other rap rock bands you're familiar with is Chips (the lead rapper) has a psychology degree, and Holden (the lead singer) is an accomplished producer and award winning music video director. It was a Chips track featuring Holden's band My Sister Ocean and Juno-award winning Choclair (which Holden produced in 2014) that inspired Holden to write an entire album with the 'two lead vocalists' idea in mind. PART I was just released and the early reviews are saying the band sounds like Bad Religion meets Linkin Park – you might find your own comparisons but one thing is certain: Nucularboy isn't your typical rap rock band. Another element Nucularboy has that most 'new' bands don't: Holden and Eug have been playing in bands together since 1995.
The live show consists of Holden and Chips on vocals, Eug on drums and extra vox, Jeff Dick on guitar, Dave McMath on keys/electronic noises, and Doc DeGroot on bass.
The debut EP was produced by Holden in his home studio in Sherwood Park, Alberta (just East of Edmonton).
Nucularboy's name comes from the My Sister Ocean album and song of the same name – a play on the way Homer Simpson says 'nuclear.' The name was the perfect one for this project – nucular: explosive, hot, intense, and boy: youthful, masculine, innocent but maybe even immature...
