IMPORTANT NOTICE regarding COVID-19 ("Coronavirus")

As public health policies evolve, there may be a number of events that will be cancelled or postponed.

We will be updating our event listings as and when we find out about these changes. Since this is a rapidly evolving situation, we encourage you to confirm any event listings directly with the event venues or organizers, or check via social media for the latest information.

Vocal Alchemy is a diverse and inter-generational community choir, formed in 2002. We learn and perform a broad variety of music including classical and folk, historical and contemporary music. We are singers of all ages and musical experience, from university students to grandparents, beginner to well-versed. We sing together for enjoyment, learning, and to share performances with our audience. We enjoy a challenging and supportive choral experience in an educational environment.

In the last few seasons, Vocal Alchemy has grown greatly, and so have our audiences. Recent concerts to packed houses have included collaborations with a variety of instrumentalists and singers- just check out our Past Events pages!

In addition to our basic rehearsals and concert performance schedule, we take part in a number of additional activities including the Vocal Alchemy Men’s Workshop, regular retreats and other clinics with conductor Jordan Van Biert and other guests, and occasional extra performance opportunities, including caroling, performances for local hospitals and senior’s facilities, and even on TV!

For the past two seasons, we’ve also had a Musicianship and Theory class, a 12-week session of one-hour classes prior to Tuesday night rehearsals, for those who’d like to learn a bit more about music theory, terminology and sight reading.

For a rough idea of the variety of music we learn and perform, check out last season’s concerts, a sacred Christmas program featuring vocal soloists and harp with audience participation, a Jazz/Pop/Broadway program featuring a variety of instrumentalists and rhythm section, and a spring program on music of texts of great English poets, highlighted by Jazz composer George Shearing.
